What is the We Eat Responsibly Project all about?
Training at Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park; 9th to 11th June, 2015
Our school is participating in the WE EAT RESPONSIBLY! EU funded project which was launched on the 9th June, 2015 at Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park.
In June last year, teachers from the 14 Maltese schools participating in the project, received three days of training. There was a further day of training and information on the 15th October, 2015, at St Benedict College.
The interlinkedness of communities all over the world when it comes to the food we eat, in whichever country we live in, was vividly brought home. There is so much potential with this project. The programme is ambitious in scope; there are many objectives, some obvious and others tantalizingly close to formulation.
Active learning, critical thinking, huge amounts of information to be analyzed and processed, team work, citizenship development (both international and national), activism, entrepreneurship, communication, project management...
Isn't this a great initiative funded by the EU? Nine EU countries getting together, in the context of the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, in an attempt to make the entire world a better place. Educating our school children on this hugely important topic is surely the way to go!

1800 teachers and tutors in 9 EU countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia) are developing their knowledge and skills in the understanding of links between food production, changes in society, and the environment and our quality of life.
550 European Eco-Schools are running year long educational programs on responsible food consumption topics.
65 000 pupils and 25 000 students are looking for opportunities for responsible changes in their menu as well as in their neighbourhood.
We will be following the 7 step Eco-School methodology to implement sustained changes in our eating habits, so that we make responsible food choices, which take into account our health, and that of our planet and its peoples.
